The mysterious (gnostic) aionTajemný aión
The very common Christian doxological formula strikes by its – at first sight unnecessary – complexity or duplicity: for ages of ages. This puzzle cannot be solved unless we realize that at the root of it lies a much older concept of aion, with a long history beginning in pre-classical Greece. Are there more ages? At least two, because both in (Jewish) antiquity (olam habbá) and now a New Age has been expected. But a New Age can have also personal traits (The Messiah!) Time structure of a world can be quite complex and surely the plurality of worlds brings about plurality of time(s) or even of eternity/ies. Both temporality and personality appear by the Gnostic aion, which is not the ordinary time (The thing all things devours…), but a kind of its contrary – something providing vigorousness and stability. The 19-th Century dared to break the up-to-then source of stability – the conventional space (in mathematics and later in physics). It seems likely (and is illustrated by several examples) that people of the beginning of Christian era dared to break even more substantial universality – the time ant moreover give it personal traits.

The TruthPravda
The Aristotelian definition of truth is not good enough, neither in a weakened form requiring not equality, but correspondence. But Aristotle rightly reminds us that we can only know what we already know in a way – in a purely private world, truth is not very difficult to constitute.
In our search for the core of the truth will help us analasyng its two essential antitheses – error and lie. The role of activity on the way to the truth. The value of the so-called objective truth. Falsification is not the way to the truth either. What truth do we need? Truth as the medium of (self-)identity, as a religious and transcendent phenomenon, as ontological certainty.
Parallel ages of the worldParalelní věky
Starting from a particular dictum in the Gnostic writing Trimorfos Protennoia NHC XIII,1 (40,4-7), where it is said that at one moment new aeons were formed while there had already existed a complete another series of such entities , the article studies the particular character of the Gnostic aion: Is it a purely temporal, spacial, or personal entity? Therefore a set of 100 references in the Gnostic literature has been considered with interesting results, establishing that sometimes the aion may be all of this at once.
The (pre-Gnostic) history of the concept of aion from antiquity to Christian times is then considered, as well as the relation of the Gnostic aions to Jewish eschatology with its key concept of two ages/worlds (OLAM HAZE, OLAM HABBA). The decomposition of space that was successfully attempted by mathematicians in the nineteenth century may thus have already had a precursor in the manner how the man of the Hellenistic era, suffering so much under the severe rule of time (of the devouring and destructive time – of the type of CHRONOS) together with fate (HEIMARMENE), tried to overcome these by designing a sophisticated structure of temporality.

Parallel Eras of the WorldParalelní věky v gnózi Der Paralelismus der Zeitalter in der Gnosis
The article is based on a Gnostic dictum found in the text De Protennoia trimorfos (NHC XIII,1), which literally states: „And the great Daimon began to create aeons in the image of the aeons already existing. He created them with his own power,“ and, taking into account other passages from the Gnostic literature (100 excerpts were used for this purpose), the specific Gnostic term „aion“ is examined in detail, including its history, wonderful variety of meanings and interpretations, temporal, spatial, but also personal. (The being must be understood personally when, for example, it has a name or expresses its will or carries out actions). The distribution of meanings in the result is presented and interpreted in tables and graphs ( special attention is given to Valentinian Gnosis). References to other Gnostic terms such as generation or angels and also to the two ages of later Judaism, namely this world and the world to come, are mentioned.

Time is then considered from a philosophical point of view, with reference to a saying by Zd. Neubauer, which reads: The determination of time presupposes a certain temporality which is for every world specific. Another age – other days; Each regime of the world corresponds to a different „alignment of days“, constituting the nature of its eternity.

The long history of the term Aion is then examined, beginning in archaic Greece, , then via Plato with his definition of time, up to the strange Alexandrian deity and the meanings of this term among the Gnostics and Christians.

At the end, the treatise returns to the initial question, that of the plurality of aeons, which, according to the analysis carried out, seems possible, especially since aeon is not the usual time, chronos (something uniting the whole world under its rule and subdueing it to it). If we take into account that mathematicians in the 19th century learned to destroy and re-build space, which in their age was considered something indomitable, superior and constitutive to all forms of being, especially those tangible by scientific description, and to reconstruct it in new variants, why could not the people of late antiquity do the same with time, which was then the phenomenon considered most powerful and universally feared of?
